Obituary

Shirley Reineke, age 84, of 528 5th St., Huron, SD, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Rapid City Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Monday, May 12, at the Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Carl Black officiating. Burial will be at Ideal Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m.; or Monday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. Shirley Reineke was born Shirley Evelyn Weston on August 31, 1923, to Oscar and Lurean Happy (Minnick) Weston in Huron, SD. She attended schools in Huron and was 2 months shy of graduating from Huron High School when her father became seriously ill and she had to quit school to help at home. However, education was important to Shirley and she proudly completed her GED at the age of 70. On February 4, 1944, Shirley married Andrew Erickson in Huron, SD. Shirley worked as a cook at the Armour Plant in Huron for many years and also for 1 year at the Deli Store in North Pole, Alaska. She also worked for many years for Green Thumb. On July 23, 1977, Shirley married Herman Reineke in Huron. She was a member of the Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary, and attended the Church of the Nazarene, both in Huron. In addition to being with her family, her many interests included playing Bingo, caring for her flowers, crocheting, cooking and baking. She is survived by 11 children, Lynn (Pat) Weston of Huron, Andrew Erickson of Huron, Lurean (Mike) McKenna of Bangor, CA, Peggy (Wes) Barnes of Rapid City, Larry (Wanda) Erickson of Sioux Falls, Vern (Norma) Erickson of Sioux Falls, Lynnett (Bill) Gross of Huron, Pat (Lynn) Weston of Huron, Linda (Paul) Bigelow of Manchester, MI,, Mary Ann Gross of Columbus, MT, and Vicki (Brian) Stoppelmoor of San Antonio, TX; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Weston, and her mother, Lurean Happy Lynde; her husband, Herman; 1 son, Herman Reineke III; 4 brothers and their spouses; and 2 sisters and their spouses.
