Shirley K. Radke, age 71, of Huron, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-7 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2016 with the family present from 5-7 pm at the Welter Funeral Home; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.



Shirley Kaye Cloud was born January 2, 1945 at Flandreau, SD to Ileen (Johanson) and Everett Cloud. She attended Rural Fletcher Grade School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1963. Shirley received her Associate Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Dakota State College in Madison, SD in 1965. She taught first grade at Wessington Springs public school from 1965-1969. Shirley married Melvin W. Radke on October 25, 1969 at Flandreau, SD. They lived in Wessington Springs until January 1970 when they moved to Huron.



In 1970, Shirley received her Bachelor of Science degree from Dakota State University and was an elementary school teacher at St Martin's Catholic School, Custer Consolidated School, McKinley Elementary School, and Buchanan Elementary School teaching kindergarten through grade 6. She was awarded Elementary Teacher of the Year in 1998. Shirley retired from her teaching career in 2007. The joy of her life was raising their three children and she assisted in coaching O.M. (Olympics of the Mind) when her children were in elementary school.



Shirley was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she served on the Church Council, taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was active in midweek Bible Study and enjoyed quilting at the church. Shirley's favorite pastimes were spending time with the Grandchildren doing projects in her project room and going for coffee with her friends.



She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Mel of Huron; three children, Sarah Radke of Huron, Mike (Danielle) Radke of Huron, and Sonya (Chris) LaMont of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren Teegan Radke, Will Radke, Katelyn Radke, Sam Radke, Max Radke, Lucy LaMont, Everett LaMont, and Simon LaMont; three sisters Sharon Stordahl of Flandreau, Sandra Cloud of Watertown, and Deborah Cloud of Apple Valley, MN; two sisters-in-law Jeanne (Donavan Pautzke) Cloud of Northfield MN and Verla Schuster of Rapid City; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darrell Cloud, and two brothers-in-law Roger Dougherty and Arlen Stordahl.
