Obituary

Shirley Nelson, age 74, of Huron, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at Avera McKenna Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her memorial service will be 11:00 am Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a private burial of her cremated remains at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, SD at a later date. Memorial visitation will be from 10-11 am Thursday before the service at the funeral home. Shirley Rae Nelson was born on November 29, 1939 in Brookings, SD to Jack and Berneda (Langmeyer) Scroggins. She started school in Isabell, SD and then attended Lead Public Schools. Shirley worked for the Homestake Gold Mine for a while, then for the Lawrence County Sheriff's office. She was also a Volunteer Fire Fighter in Newell, SD. Shirley married Marvin Klingman in Lead, SD on June 1, 1956. They had three children and made their home in Vancouver, WA. She married Robert Christensen in Lead, SD on November 21, 1969. They had 2 children and made their home in Lead. She married Norman Nelson on January 22, 1982 in Huron. They had one child and made their home in Huron. In Huron, Shirley worked for the Dept. of Social Services as a home healthcare aide for 16 years until 1997. She also worked at Walmart as a greeter until 2010. Shirley was an avid supporter of the Beadle Co. Humane Society. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and western movies. Shirley is survived by her four children, Rhonda (Shane) Ringheimer of Huron, Jack (Sharon) Christensen of Mitchell, Bonnie (Chad) Palmer of Huron, Norma Nelson of Huron; nine grandchildren, Kevin Trebelcock Jr, Cody Trebelcock, Krysten Sifuentes, Alex Trebelcock, Tara Palmer, Spencer Christensen, Dylan Christensen, Robert Christensen, Logan Christensen; nine great grandchildren, Wyatt, Conner, Liamm, Adalynne, Ellianah, Mateo, Zoey, Chasity, Kenny; one niece, Tena (Jeff) Brooks of Eugene, OR; and her cat, Midnight Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cindy Holven in 1979; and her sister, Jacqueline Doud in 1987. Shirley died Monday, June 30, 2014 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 1 day.
