Shirley A. (Flolo) Bahde, age 90, of Aberdeen, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial to follow at St. Martin Cemetery in Huron.
Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5-7 p.m., on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service on Tuesday morning at the church. A rosary service will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home.
Shirley Ann Bahde was born on February 5, 1935, to parents Lloyd and Ann (Artz) Flolo in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She attended Sacred Heart elementary school until 1944 when the family moved to Ellendale, North Dakota. In 1947, she moved with the family to Huron, where she attended St. Teresa school and graduated from Huron High School in 1953.
Following graduation, Shirley attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and later transferred to Indiana University in Bloomington, IN where she studied music. While at Indiana, she sang with the "Belles of Indiana" and traveled extensively with the group. Sponsored by the USO, the Belles sang at all the military installations in the southern US and the Caribbean. She was a charter member of Gamma Phi Beta social sorority.
In 1958, Shirley joined Western Airlines in Los Angeles as a flight attendant. She did extensive modeling for Western Airlines when the Electra Jet was introduced into their fleet. While in California she worked in document control for the Northrup Space Lab and the Ranger Project which was the first un-manned mission to the moon.
She returned to South Dakota in 1963 when her mother passed away and went to work in the family photography business. In 1964, Shirley opened the Flolo Studio in Redfield. She owned and operated this business until 1972. While in Redfield, she was active at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. She taught CCD for many years and played and directed the church choir.
She married Ellison Bahde in 1971, and they enjoyed many years together. They both loved playing golf, traveling in the winter and spending time with family and friends.
In 1992, Shirley and Ellison moved to Aberdeen. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church where she sang in the choir, PEO Chapter BX and the Yellow Brick Road Quester, Moccasin Creek Country Club and the Sunshine Singers.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ellison in 1997; her brothers John Flolo and Thomas Flolo.
She is survived by her daughter Ann Bahde of Sioux Falls; grandsons Dr. Karsten (Rebecca) Rohlfs of Sioux Falls, Nicholas (Sarah Anderson) Wullweber of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Matthew Wullweber of Sioux Falls; and great-grandchildren Owen, Vincent and Dominic Rohlfs of Sioux Falls. She is also survived by the Flolo, Haskell and Bahde families who were all very dear to her.
