Sheila A. Hampton, age 73, of Wolsey, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Avantara Huron. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, South Dakota. Due to the weather, a private family burial will be held at St. John's Cemetery in rural Wolsey at a later date. Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, SD.

Sheila Ann was born on July 21, 1949 to parents Floyd and Lila (Harms) Ahlstrom in Huron, SD. She attended Hitchcock High School, graduating in 1967.
Sheila married Darrel Hampton on July 27, 1968 in Huron, South Dakota. The couple made their home in rural Huron, raising their daughters Tracy and Jessica. Sheila was self-employed using her creative talents.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She volunteered at Vacation Bible School and Sunday School for many years. She and Darrel enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends. She also enjoyed crafting, putting puzzles together, and playing cards. Sheila especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren and sharing with them her love of crafts.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughters, Tracy (Charles) Griffith of Panora, Iowa and Jessica (David) Gatzke of Volga, SD; 7 grandchildren, Hunter Hykes, Ian and Lylah Griffith, Colby, Kynslee, Ava, and Boedy Gatzke; her sisters, Kathleen Hill of Casper, WY, Yvonne (Dennis) Hauger of Mission Hills, SD, Lynette (Rod) Jungemann of Wolsey, and Vonita Gardner of Sioux Falls; Darrel's siblings, Jeanine (Gene) Harms of Sturgis, Rod (Linda) Hampton of Sturgis, Kevin (Lu) Hampton of Nisland, Kent (Vickie) Hampton of Huron, Kelley (Rhonda) Hoffmann of Axtell, NE, and Annette (Steve) Bailey of Spearfish; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Darrel in July 2022; her parents; brother, Kelvin; her parents-in-law, Donald and Eunice Hampton; her stepmother, Carol Ahlstrom; and several other family members.
Sheila's family would like to thank the Stoneybrook staff, Avantara Huron, and the entire Hospice care team for the loving care she received.
