Sharon Peck, age 66, formerly of Huron, passed away after a long courageous battle with post-polio syndrome and cancer on February 7, 2006, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Her Prayer Service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 11th at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at a later date. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Friday afternoon and evening or Saturday until the time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Sharon Peck was born Sharon Schade on October 31, 1939 to Fay and Irene (Olson) Schade at Volga SD. Sharon was afflicted with polio at the age of 8. At that time she spent 9 months at Sioux Valley hospital on an iron lung to sustain her breathing. In 1949 the family moved to Huron so Sharon could live at home while continuing her physical therapy treatments with Helen Buchanan. Sharon attended school at St Johns Hospital in Huron until the 9th grade when she was able to reenter public school. Sharon was active in many activities in High School including her favorite which was the High School Chorus. Sharon took voice lessons from Bryn Griffith to keep her lungs strong and she sang at various public functions including many weddings. Sharon graduated from Huron High School with honors in 1958 and from Huron College in 1963. While in college Sharon went on many road trips with the College Choir. Sharon and Leslie Pete Davidson were married Dec 26, 1960. Sharon and Pete resided in Huron where Sharon worked for Farm Bureau and St Johns Hospital for Dr Lardinois as a medical secretary. In 1970 Sharon and Dawson Peck were united in marriage. They made there home in Minneapolis, MN where Sharon worked at Hennepin County Medical Center. Sharon and Dawson had 2 children, Roger and Angie. The Pecks moved back to Huron in 1989. Sharon was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all the Vikings and Twins games on television. She also enjoyed going to the Coffee Tree and the Crossroads for coffee with family and friends. Survivors include her son Roger (Kelly) Peck of Shakopee, MN, her daughter Angie Peck of Huron, grandson Michael Peck of Shakopee, MN and her sister Jerri (Bill) Siver of Rapid City. Sharon is also survived by a niece, Dawn Birkeland and a nephew, Jack Boetel, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Dawson in 2001, her mother, Irene Schade in April 2005, her father Fay Schade in 1955 and grandparents. As one of Sharons cousins put it Sharon was one cool lady and will continue to be an inspiration every day of my life. What a pleasure it has been to have had Sharon in our lives, she was truly one of Gods special children.
