Sharon Grayson, age 63, of 447 3rd St. SW, Huron, died Saturday, December 30, 2006, at the Huron Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Her funeral service will be at 2:30 PM Tuesday, January 2, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Rick Senner officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Sharon Grayson was born Sharon Marie Nelson on April 26, 1943, to Merlin E. and Mondain I. (Peterson) Nelson in Huron, SD. She graduated from Forestburg High School in 1961, and graduated from St. Johns School of Nursing in Huron in 1963. On December 10, 1965, Sharon married George L. Gary Grayson in Huron. She was employed at St. Johns Hospital until 1968 when she began working at the Huron Nursing Home (the first day it opened). In 1969 she became the Director of Nursing & Assistant Administrator, and in 1971 she became the Administrator and held this position until her death. She also did the bookwork for Grayson Auto Parts during this period of time. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She also was a volunteer for Reach for Recovery for many years. Sharon was well respected in the community because of her compassion, generosity and fair-mindedness. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a special fondness for the lake that started in her childhood with family vacations and continued with her own family as an adult. Honored to have shared in her life are her loving husband, George of Huron; 1 son, Tim (Connie) Grayson of Huron; 1 daughter, Toni (Brad) Rounds of Huron; 5 granddaughters, Kaydee Grayson, Brandee Grayson, Calla Rounds, Maddy Rounds, and Libby Rounds, all of Huron; her mother, Mondain Peterson of Huron; 1 sister, Sandy (Tom) Selland of Forestburg; 2 sisters-in-law, Linda (Jim) Bauer of Duluth, MN, and Connie (Bill) Hackett of Brookings; 2 aunts, Ethel Woodruff of Huron, and Helen Odland of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Merlin Nelson; her maternal grandparents, Andrew and Mary Peterson; and paternal grandparents, Albert and Josephine Nelson.
