Sarah L. Elliott, 92 of Huron, SD, and formerly of Avon, SD, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Avon with burial at Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon. Visitation with family present will be at the church Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel of Avon is in charge of the arrangements. Visit Crosby-Jaegerfh.com Sarah Louise Elliott, daughter of Francis Marion and Rosa Pauline (Backer) Holland, was born November 14, 1920, at Auxvasse, MO. Sarah attended school in Auxvasse and graduated from high school. She then went on to college for one year. Sarah married Orval L. Elliott at Ashland, MO, on January 12, 1941. Five children were blessed to their union. Sarah met Orval when he was working at a hardware store in Auxvasse. They moved to Ronan, MT, and later to Charlo, MT, where Orval operated the telephone company. In 1958, they moved to Avon and they owned the telephone company until 1961 where Sarah worked as a telephone operator until it went to dial tone. At this time they purchased the Marshall Wells Store and turned it into a Coast to Coast Store. Sarah was also a loving homemaker, mother and wife. Sarah was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women in Avon. Sarah will be remembered for her enjoyment of writing letters, riding her three-wheel bicycle and going to rummage sales. Due to failing health, Sarah and Orval moved to Springfield Assisted Living Center in 2005. After Orval's death on July 12, 2008, Sarah moved to Country View Estates in Huron where she met many new friends and enjoyed her stay. At the end of September she moved to Sunquest Healthcare Center in Huron. Thankful for having shared her life are her children, Mary Louise Jensen and husband Leslie of Alpena, Howard of Avon, Gary and wife Rita of Hannibal, MO, and Ethel Kruger and husband Kenneth of Papillion, NE; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and one on the way; one sister, Mary Frances Doescher of Rapid City, SD; and relatives and friends. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband; son, Charles Edward who died in 1951 at the age of 11 months; great granddaughter, Celesta Elliott; parents; and brother, Harry Holland.
