Ryan Wenz, age 67, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at his home. His private funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 25, from 3-6 pm with the family present from 5-6 pm at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A prayer service will begin at 6 pm on Tuesday evening.
Ryan Ray Wenz was born on July 7, 1953 to parents Albert and Fern (Lehr) Wenz in Beadle County, South Dakota. Ryan attended school in Alpena and graduated from Alpena High School in 1972.
Ryan worked for the Alpena COOP from 1973 to 1978 and then worked for Farm Service Agency, retiring in December of 2011. After retirement, Ryan worked for Albrecht Diesel.
Ryan enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially his trip to Canada with his son. He loved Mopar cars, his hunting dog Jake, and going to the car races. Spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren was important to him. He loved to work with his hands and was a talented handyman who built and remodeled his own home.
Ryan married Barbara Frank in Huron on May 16, 2008 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Church and was also a volunteer firefighter for the Alpena Fire Department.
Ryan was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Brooke Groenewold.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Huron; children, Tim (Nichole) Wenz of Alpena, Christi (Jim) Danburg of Miller, and Jennifer (Daniel) Groenewold of Humboldt; 8 grandchildren, Kelby Tracy, Kaden Danburg, Tyler Groenewold, Trace Wenz, Alexa Groenewold, Tryan Wenz, Jenna Danburg, and Trustin Wenz. Brothers, Steve (Deb) Wenz of Huron and Donavin (Donna) Wenz of Red Bluff, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
