Ruth Thomas, age 94, of Huron, SD passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday May 8, 2019 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with burial at the Riverside Cemetery in Huron.   Visitation will be one hour prior to the start of the service on Wednesday.

Ruth Horsley, the daughter of Guy and Eldora (Manor) Horsley, was born at home on December 29, 1924 south of Virgil, SD.  She attended country school near Virgil. In 1934, the family moved south of Wessington where she went to the McNeil school. She attended some high school in Wessington.

Ruth married Merlyn J. Thomas on April 5, 1944 in Huron, SD.  To this union was born two children, Judy and Richard.  Merlyn passed away on March 9, 1983.  Ruth married Charles Single in 1988. Charles passed away in 2007.

Ruth owned her own drapery business out of her home. She enjoyed going to Arizona in the winter and playing cards and dancing.

Grateful for having shared in Ruth's life are her children, son Richard (Sharyl) Thomas of Burbank, SD, daughter Judy (Steven) Glanzer of Carpenter, SD; grandson Jeffrey (Jeni) Thomas and granddaughter Stephanie (Terry) Wicks; great-grandsons Dylan Wicks, Shane Wicks; great-granddaughter Kelly (fiancé Aaron Quinn) Wicks; step granddaughters Janet (Duane) Deneke, Allisen Stirman, April (Jeffrey) Noteboom; step grandson Charles (Connie) Lovett; seven step great-grandsons, five step great-granddaughters, six step great-great-granddaughters, three step great-great grandsons; brother Wayne (Joan) Horsley; sisters Myrtle Van Asperen and Sharon (Roger) Menning; brother-in-law Rennald Stiner; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; grandson Eric Glanzer; siblings infant twin sisters Horsley, Melvin Horsley, Mary Horsley, Keith Horsley, Lula Wedge, Alma Plate, Tressie Beck, and Bert Stiner.
