Ruth E. Huntington, age 94, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Monday, January 4, 2016 at American Lutheran Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 2-4 pm on Sunday with a prayer service and time of sharing at 3:30 pm at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the funeral service.

Ruth was born on May 3, 1921 in rural Wessington, SD to Fred and Florence (Sedam) Brown. She graduated from Wessington High School in 1939 and then attended General Beadle College at Madison, SD where she earned her teachers certificate. She taught at the Brown School in Wessington for 1 year. In 1940, Ruth moved to California where she was employed at the Howard Hughes Aircraft Company until 1949. She returned to Wessington for a short time and then moved Huron when she worked for the North American Creamery.

On January 15, 1950, Ruth married Harold Huntington at the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington. They made their home in Huron where Ruth was employed at JC Penny's and the Carol Ann Dress Shop until 1965 when Ruth and Harold moved to Denver, CO. Ruth was employed at the May D&F Department Store in Denver until their retirement in 1982. They moved to Apache Wells in Mesa, AZ and lived there until May 2005 when they moved to Huron. Ruth was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Huron.

Ruth is survived by 4 nephews, Kelly (Sharon) Brown of Statesville, NC, Kirk (Cindy) Brown of Odessa, MO, Jack (Glenda) Brown of Rapid City, SD, and Randy Otto of Sioux Falls; and 1 niece, Peggy Roy of Mitchell, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold "Swede"; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Delores "Dee" Brown; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Carl Otto; and 1 niece, Sandra Lou Otto.
