Ruth A. Bartholow Betts, age 94, of Green Valley, AZ, and formerly of Huron, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at Green Valley. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, May 13, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 8:00 AM until 12:00 (noon) at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday afternoon. Ruth Bartholow Betts was born Ruth A. Crozier on October 21, 1910, to David and Laura (Redburn) Crozier at Watertown, SD. Ruth graduated from Watertown High School and Sioux Falls College with a teaching certificate. Ruth taught school for many years in Altemont, Yale and Wolsey. She had a great love for her students and the joy of learning. On June 19, 1933 ('), Ruth married Dale E. Bartholow. Dale passed away August 1, 1957. On June 4, 1969, Ruth married Dr. Laurence Betts in the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, SD. Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church. After her marriage to Dr. Betts she found a fulfilling home at First Presbyterian Church. She was the Girl Scout Commissioner, a member of the Chapter BE-PEO, Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Ruth lived most of her life in Huron. She and Laurence spent many winters in Green Valley, AZ, finally making that their home. She is survived by her only child, Sharon Bartholow Light and son-in-law James Light; three stepdaughters, Linda Betts Briscoe, Nancy Betts Beasley, and Laura Gene Betts Diebold; her beloved grandchildren, Dr. Rodney Light and his wife Mary Beth, David Light and his wife Jennifer, Lori Light Johnson and her husband Rev. Peter. She was called Grandma Great by her 6 great grand children, Daniel Collin Johnson, James Dale Johnson, Molly Ann Johnson, Barbara Ruth Light, Patrick MacLinden Mac Light, and Margaret Ruth Maggie Light. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ralph G. Crozier; and her 2 husbands Dale Bartholow and Laurence Betts. Ruth passed away Monday, May 2, 2005 with her beloved friend Martha at her side. She is dearly loved by all and greatly missed.
