Russell D. Root, age 58 years, 5 months, and 3 days, of Huron, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023 at his home in Huron.

His Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.

Visitation will be from 3-6 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Welter Funeral Home, family present from 4-6, with a prayer service to begin at 5:30 on Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Russell DeWayne Root was born on June 21, 1965, to parents Harold and Jessie (Burnett) Root in Huron. Russell attended Huron schools, graduating in 1983. Russell worked at several places including the Plains, Randall's, Telelect, Huron Dressed Beef, Lodmel Construction. He was also self-employed for many years with his own cement work business, R & R Creations. His concrete craftsmanship remains a part of his legacy throughout the community.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing dominoes with his family, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed being with his loving animals, Sassy, Big Boy, Angel, and Heidi.

He is survived by his children, Jessica Howard of Redfield, Joshua (Lexy) Root of Huron, and Casey (Ashley) Root of Huron; 13 grandchildren, Skiley Root, Derrick Howard, Drake Howard, Sierra Howard, Emma Walls, Kinley Root, Noah Root, Adrianna Root, Symfani Root, Celeste Root, Serenity Root, Paridise Root, Benntlei Root, and another baby Root on the way; his mother, Jessie Root of Huron; his siblings, Rita (Tom) Nagan of WI, Douglas (Shelly) Root of Watertown, and Donald (Betty) Root of IA.

He was preceded by his father, Harold in 2009; his brother Fredrick "Rick" Root in 1988, and his sister Myra VanderHeiden in 2018.
