Rueben Winter, age 88, of 1225 Minnesota Ave. SW, Huron, and formerly of rural Wessington, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Monday, April 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron with Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday morning. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. Rueben Nathaniel Winter was born on June 14, 1917, to Nathaniel and Martha (Tiede) Winter at rural Wessington, SD. He received his education at rural schools in Hand County. Rueben was baptized and confirmed at New Zion Congregational Church, and was a member there until the time of its closing, after which he and his wife became members of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church. On November 3, 1940, Rueben married Alma Schimke at Harvey, ND. They farmed in the Wessington area until 1991 after which they retired and moved to Huron. They became members of First Presbyterian Church in Huron. He is survived by his wife, Alma of Huron; 1 son, Gordon (Barbara) Winter of Medford, OR; 1 daughter, Joyce (Marvin) Hines of Huron; 2 grandsons, Dr. Todd (Deann) Winter of Medford, OR, and Kip (Jennifer) Hines of Moorhead, MN; 2 granddaughters, Heidi (Steve) Tracht of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Darla (Eric) Porter of Huron; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen (Cecil) Burnison of Huron, and Phyllis (Robert) Sherman of Pendleton, OR; and 1 brother-in-law, Harold Klein of Roger, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Elmer Winter, and Arnet Winter; 2 sisters, Lenora Gutjahr, and Selma Klein; and 1 great grandson, Logan Winter.
