Ruby M. Meyer, age 87, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her memorial service will be 11:00 am Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with burial of her cremated remains at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery following lunch. Memorial visitation with family present will be from 10-11 am Monday, October 24 at the church. Ruby's family prefers memorials go to Virgil United Methodist Church, HRMC Hospice, or the People's Transit. Ruby Mae Meyer was a small woman with a big heart; she will be greatly missed and always remembered with love by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruby loved to go dancing with her husband, Paul, she also enjoyed gardening, cooking big dinners for her family, organizing picnics, playing cards and enjoying time with her family. Ruby never met a child she didn't love and help grow. Ruby taught values and instilled them in each one of the young lives she touched. There is so much more to describe what a kind and giving soul Ruby truly was that it is unreal. She was always grateful, thankful and wonderful. Ruby was born to Earl and Olga Meyer on September 3, 1924. She grew up on the family farm near the Bancroft area. After Ruby graduated from high school, she went on and attended Huron Business School and received her teaching certificate. Ruby secured a teaching position at the Meyer School and obtained a room and board with a local farmer (Otto Meyer). While living on the farm, Ruby met Otto's son (Paul), and they eventually became engaged and were married at her parent's home in Huron. Paul and Ruby were married for 58 wonderful years and raised 5 sons together. Ruby then became a full time homemaker and helped around the family's farm. Ruby was also an active member of the Virgil Methodist Church, UMW, the local extension homemakers club, 4-H and she belonged to many card clubs. After many years on the farm, Ruby and Paul decided to move into Huron around 1985. Paul and Ruby lived in Huron for the remainder of their lives together. She is survived by her sons; Steven of Huron, SD, Richard (Carolyn) of Huron, SD, Randall (Liz) of Broomfield, CO and Todd of Orlando, FL along with her grandchildren; Cody, Jeremy, Justin, Kristen, Brice and Trent and 7 great grandchildren. Ruby is also survived by; Audrey Meyer of AZ, Lulu Mencke of Huron, SD and Wilma King of Downey, CA. Ruby was preceded in death by; her husband, Paul; son, Rodney; and brother, Clinton.
