Rose A. Carstens, age 67, of Mitchell and formerly of Huron, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at her home. Her Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Visitation will be held at 11:30 AM to the time of service on Saturday, May 1.

Rose Ann was born on March 12, 1954 to parents Melvin E. and Evelyn N. (Emery) Dugdale in De Smet, South Dakota.

Rose married Bruce Carstens on October 20, 1972 in De Smet. The couple moved to Huron in 1972 where Rose worked at Innovative Industries and NTA Trucking. In 1998, the couple moved to Mitchell where she worked for Graphic Packaging for many years before her retirement.

She loved to go shopping at thrift stores, play games with her family and play games online. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren. She had a contagious laugh and great smile and was always the life of the party. She enjoyed family gatherings and would open every meal with a blessing in the form of the Johnny Appleseed song. Rose enjoyed the annual family tea party that was held in remembrance of her mom, Evelyn and her sister Irene.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Carstens of Mitchell; her children, Casey Carstens of Mitchell, Kari (John Leyendecker) Carstens of Huron, and Christy (James) Shoultz of Huron; 8 grandchildren, Hayden, Kelsey, Kobe, Samantha, Ashley, Cole, James Jr., and Owen; four brothers, Lee (Sue) Dugdale of Scandia, MN, Rich (Pamala) Dugdale of Isle, MN, Jim (Mary) Dugdale of Minneapolis, MN, Chris (Lily) Dugdale of Huron; two sisters, Donna (Ron) Taschner of St. Louis Park, MN, and Mary (Bill) Kant of Sioux Falls; her aunt, Arlene Dugdale of Edina, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Amanda Rose and her sister Irene Lee.
