Obituary

Rose Bartel, age 84, of 1251 Arizona Ave. SW, Huron, SD, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at SunQuest Village.

Easter Sunday was a day of joyous celebration when, close to the hour of sunrise, the Lord called Rose to her eternal home.

Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to HRMC Community Hospice.

Rose Bartel was born Rosie Renner on August 15, 1924, to Fred and Susan (Engel) Renner in Bridgewater, SD. In her early years the family lived in Miller, SD, where Rose attended school, and then Virgil, SD, where she completed her education. Rose moved to Huron in 1941.

For 4 years she worked in a boarding house (which is now Welter Funeral Home); then she was a cook for 2 years at Huron College; for 3 years she worked at Valet Cleaners.

On September 10, 1947, Rose married Alfred Bartel at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. The couple had resided in Huron their entire married life. Even though Rose and Alfred had no children of their own, Rose loved children and babysat for many families throughout the years.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she was confirmed in 1946. Her interests included gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking, flowers especially carnations, and birds. Rose and Alfred were married for 53 wonderful, joyous years.

Rose is survived by 1 sister, Margaret Jockheck of Tulare, SD; 4 sisters-in-law, Letha Renner of Huron, Ann Bartel of Pierre, Elena Neeman of Huron, and Norelle Bartel of Huron; 1 brother-in-law, Elmer (Mary Alice) Bartel of Wolsey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred on October 10, 2000; 11 siblings, Henry, Freddie, Elizabeth, Benjamin, August, William, Georgie, Melinda, Louise, Johnny, and Floyd; a brother-in-law, Donald Jockheck; and a nephew, Marty Jockheck.
