Obituary

Rosa R. Diede, age 75, of 631 3rd St SE, Huron, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 14th at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at the Highmore Cemetery at Highmore, SD. Friends may call this Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday until the time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:30 PM this Tuesday evening at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Rosa Diede was born Rosa Ruth Smith on October 8, 1930, to Ira Henry and Ruth Genevieve (Mesiek) Smith at Lebanon, SD. She moved to Highmore as a young child with her parents and attended school at rural Highmore and Highmore High School. On October 16, 1948, Rosa married Eldon Diede at Sioux Falls. They lived and farmed in the Highmore area a few years and then moved to Huron where Rosa has lived since that time. She did office cleaning for Huron Dressed Beef for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, past member of the Moose Lodge, and Salvation Army Womens League. Rosa enjoyed going to dances, making crafts, fishing, camping and made many quilts and afghans. She also enjoyed going to activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by a special friend Dean Walker of Huron; one son, Tony E. (Virginia) Diede of Huron; one daughter, Mary Ann Jacobs of Huron; 5 grandchildren, Amy (Shayne) Raymer of Florence, SD, Heide Jo Jacobs of Huron, Todd Petersen of Huron, David (fianc Rachel Erickson) Doty of Sioux Falls, and Eldon E.J. Jacobs of Huron; 4 great grandchildren, Samantha Raymer, Casey Petersen, Jason Petersen and Trevor Raymer; 4 brothers, Henry (Paz) Smith of Port Orchard, WA, James (June) Smith of Hugo, MN, Marvin (Karen) Smith of Sterling, IL and Tom (Barb) Smith of Sioux Falls; one sister, Barb (Art) Geyer of De Smet and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eldon on May 31, 1991, her son Jerome Jay on April 19, 1997, and her son-in-law, Herman Doty in 1983. Casket bearers will be David Doty, Todd Petersen, Eldon Jacobs, Bernie Woolridge, Ralph Brooks and Luis Montoya.
