Ronald Sande, age 80, of Huron died Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron. Following Ron's wishes, his body was donated to the Anatomy Department at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. There will be no services at this time. Burial will be a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Huron. Memorials may be sent to the American Lutheran Church, 155 4th Street, Huron, SD 57350. Ron was born on December 17, 1933, to Helen and Andrew Sande. Ron was raised in Huron and loved growing up in the community. He had great memories of Jefferson Elementary School, a paper route which allowed him to earn enough money to purchase a new Schwinn bicycle, Boy Scouts, Luther League and Huron High School. After graduating from high school in 1952, Ron attended South Dakota State University for two years before being drafted into the U.S. Army. Upon completion of his military service Ron returned to college and then began a 35 year career with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Ron married Eva Jensen in 1962 and together Ron and Eva embarked on the first of many adventures, this one a railroad transfer to Norfolk, Nebraska. Another transfer returned Ron, Eva and their son, David, to Huron where they lived until being transferred to Chadron, Nebraska in 1972. A final transfer took Ron and Eva to Chicago, Illinois, where they remained until Ron's retirement in 1993. Tremendous energy, a spirit of adventure, a deep love for family, friends and community and a profound desire to be of service were the hallmarks of Ron's life. Over the years Ron expressed these traits through his hard work and devotion to his family, friends and railroad career, his hobbies which included socializing, travel, dancing, theater, music, vegetable gardening, cooking, golf and hunting, his community involvement and volunteer work with the Lions Club, Sons of Norway, The Gideon's, the American Lutheran Church in Huron, the CNW Credit Union, City Planning Commission and Immanuel Lutheran Church Council in Chadron, Nebraska, and his willingness to extend a helping hand or friendly ear to those who needed one. Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Eva Sande of Huron; his son, David (Julie) and granddaughter, Mia of Reston, VA; his sister, Mary (Stewart) Christensen of Rapid City; brother, Kermit A. (Clay Ann) Sande of Reston, VA; and many other family members and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
