Obituary

Ronald Englert, age 81, of Watertown, formerly of Huron, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the VA Regional Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Martin Cemetery including military honors. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Welter Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 7 pm; or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Ronald Lee Englert was born on October 14, 1932 in Sioux Falls, SD to Norbert and Martha (Tillmans) Englert. He graduated from Cathedral High School of Sioux Falls in 1950. On January 6, 1953, Ron then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Korea during the Korean War. After being Honorably Discharged on January 5, 1956, Ron enrolled at South Dakota State University, were he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ron then moved to Watertown to work for South Dakota Highway Department. He was transferred to Huron in 1967 and work in there as the resident engineer until his retirement. Ron married Karen Johnson in Watertown. Ron was a member of Church of the Resurrection. He was also lifetime member of the VFW, serving as the Quartermaster several times. Ron also helped to honor many other veterans with his service on the funeral honor guard. Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his beloved Chicago Bears. He was a great puzzle solver and loved to do crosswords. Ron is survived by his wife, Karen Englert of Watertown; four sons, David (Katherine) Englert of Sioux Falls, Patrick (Jody) Englert of Northfield, MN, Dale (Debbie) Englert of New Hope, MN, Chuck (Sherie) Englert of Huron; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Austin, Emilie, Sarah, Joshua, Noah, Christopher; brother, Gordon (Nancy) Englert of Billings, MT; sisters, Jeanne (Roy) Amacher of Watertown, Kathleen Gilmer of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jacqueline (Nathan) Adams, Ardelle (Robert) Van Aarde; and brother-in-law, Chuck Gilmer.
