Rollie G. Bennett Sr., age 73, of 354 1st St. Southwest, Huron, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, at the Welter Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the Welter Funeral Home or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rollie Gene Bennett Sr. was born on May 30, 1935, to Blaine Warner and Vera Mae (Remington) Bennett Sr. at Huron, South Dakota. He attended Huron elementary school and Huron high school. On November 7, 1952, Rollie married, Mary Lou Rice at Pipestone, Minnesota. He was employed at Fence Installations Inc. at Norwalk, California. He served in the South Dakota Army National Guard and later the United States Army. From 1964 until 1982, he worked at Accent Fence and from 1982 to 1990, he worked at Crown Fence. In 1993, he moved back to Huron and was employed at the federal building and at Hardee's. He was a member of the carpenters union, labor union, Elks Lodge and the William Reaves American Legion Post #7. He is survived by one daughter, Debbie (Bob) Rimel of Marietta, Georgia; one son, Rollie Gene (Sandy) Bennett Jr., of Huntington Beach, California, a special friend Judy Muth of De Smet; his ex-wife Mary Lou (Jesse) Karr of Marietta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Rollie (Jessica) Bennett, Nicole Bennett, Tiffany Bennett, Chris (Erin) Herrera, Armando (Sharon) Herrera; three great grandchildren; one brother, Chuck Bennett of Huron, and one sister Frances DeMers of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bud and one sister Connie.
