Roger McClanahan, age 75, of Huron died Friday, September 5, 2014 at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron. His memorial service will be 2:30 pm Friday, September 12, 2014 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Memorial visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Roger McClanahan was born on May 6, 1939 in Winner, SD to Lloyd and Vivian (Hiserote) McClanahan. He attended Star Prairie country school of rural Winner. Roger joined the family farm when he was out of school. For a time, he moved to Pierre to help with the construction of the Oahe Dam. Roger married Alma Mowery in Winner on January 23, 1965. They made their home on the family farm, where they also had dairy cattle and hogs. After Roger and Alma went their separate ways, he moved to Virgil in the early 1990's. Roger met Betty Collins when he bought a house from her in Virgil. They were married on September 9, 1995 in Virgil. They raised hogs and cows on their farm. In 2012, Roger had to finally sell his cattle due to health reasons. In the last couple years, he enjoyed spending time on the farm with his cat, Pink. Roger enjoyed wood working, building toy airplanes, trucks, and bird houses. He also loved gardening and doing yard work. Roger is survived by his wife, Betty McClanahan of Huron; his ten children, Bart (Alicia) McClanahan of Lakeworth, FL, Tye (Jessica) McClanahan of Watertown, SD, Tracey McWhorter of Artesian, Tad (Brenda) McClanahan of Colome, Robin McClanahan of Lincoln, Quince McClanahan of Hesperia, CA, Blake (Dawn) McClanahan of Winner, Angel (Gordon Ottenbacher) Tunnissen of Aberdeen, Lana (Ben) Westergren of Mission Hill, SD, and Darla McClanahan of Lincoln, NE; ten grandchildren, Cassandra Propst, Clarissa and Tyler McClanahan, Kelsey McWhorter, Wade McClanahan, Levi and Riley McClanahan, Shay and Ian Tunnissen, Ava Ottenbacher, Paige Westergren; one sister, Sharon Quick of Hinton, IA; sister-in-law, Kay McClanahan of Gillette, WY; and several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Trapper McClanahan in 2010; three sisters, Velda Ramser, Mavis Soles, Reva VanPatten; two brothers, Gerald McClanahan, and Kenneth McClanahan.
