Obituary

Robert Songer, age 47, of 234 Utah Ave. SE, Huron, SD, died Monday, January 7, 2008, at his home. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, January 11, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Holmes officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, or Friday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. Robert Stanley Songer was born on April 8, 1960, to Calvin and Judith (Hannahs) Songer in Winner, SD. In his teenage years he moved to Gregory, SD; in 1976 he moved to Box Elder and joined the job-corps and worked in carpentry for the next 2 years. From 1980-82 he attended vocational school in Mitchell where he studied to be an electrician. In 1983, Robert married Brenda OConnor in Winner. In 1984 Robert moved to North Platte, NE, where he lived until 1985 when he moved to Kansas to attend school to train to be a truck driver. Following his schooling he returned to live in North Platte, NE. He moved to Huron in 1990 and continued to work as a truck driver; also for Asphalt Paving and Materials Company; Ostlund Chemical Company; worked on a farm; and for Wheat Growers. On May 3, 1997, Robert married Anna Noltensmeier in Huron. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Minnesota Vikings, Play-Station 2, and especially being with his children. He is survived by his wife, Anna of Huron; 5 children, Bobbi (Casey) Harger of Winner, Rick Noltensmeier, John Songer, Dallas Songer, and Patricia Songer, all of Huron; 1 grandchild, Jordan Harger; his father, Calvin Songer of Norfolk, NE; 2 brothers, Allen Songer of Huron, and Ray (Michelle) Songer of Hastings, NE; 3 sisters, Donna (Alan) Murphy of Battle Creek, NE, Gloria Songer of Gregory, and Susan Songer of Aberdeen; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith in October 1997.
