Robert G. Schlim (Bobby), age 72, of Huron, SD passed away surrounded by his immediate family following a courageous battle with cancer. His Heavenly Father called him home on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial in St. Martin's Cemetery, Huron.
His visitation, with family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also begin one hour prior to the service at the Church on Wednesday.
Robert George Schlim, the son of George and Agnes (Sieverding) Schlim, was born on October 23, 1943 in Howard, SD. He attended school through eighth grade and started working immediately after his father's passing. Bob started his career as a carpenter with Groves Construction. He later joined Picek Construction where he worked as a foreman for 50 years until his retirement.
Bob married his beloved wife, Carol McNutt on February 15, 1964 in Huron, SD. From this union he was blessed with two sons and two daughters.
He was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. A strong faith and his belief in the Lord guided him through life.
Bob was a selfless and hardworking man. He was a trusted advisor, and was often told he was a mentor to many. He always put his family first and taught them many important life lessons. Spending time with his family, friends, and especially his four grandsons was his greatest joy. He was an inspiration and role model to his wife, children, and grandsons, and a shining example to all who were blessed to know him.
Bob loved motorcycles and his favorite pastime was riding his Harley and restoring cars. He was a skilled mechanic and a jack of all trades. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, was an avid reader and loved dogs.
Grateful for having shared in Bob's life are his wife of 52 years, Carol of Huron, SD; two daughters, Sasha (Brian) Zavesky and Carrie Schlim both of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandsons: Landon, William, Jackson, and Tyler Zavesky; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and George; his two sons, Brad and Dustin Schlim;his step-father, Rubin Funk; grandparents; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
