Robert Miller, age 70, of 1585 Beach Ave. SE, Huron, SD, died Sunday morning, December 21, 2008, at the Transitional Care Unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD.

His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27, at the Congregational United Church of Christ with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, December 26, from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with family present from 7-8 p.m.; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bob Miller was born Robert D. Miller on June 10, 1938, to John and Nell (Jackson) Miller at Fargo, ND. He graduated from Britton High School in 1956 and still holds the 200 meter dash record. He graduated Northern State College at Aberdeen, SD, in 1960, where he also ran track and played football.

He married Vickie Christensen on November 26, 1960, in Wessington Springs. They lived in Redfield, SD, for 2 years; Langdon, ND, for 3 years; Scotland, SD, for 6 years; and moved to Huron in 1971. He held positions of coach, teacher, athletic director, and arena manager within the various schools and towns before he retired in 1983 to participate as a partner with Miller's Jewelry in Huron.

He was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, making his summer home West Whitlock on the river. He enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren and family. He is loved by the Christensen family who continued to be an important part of his life.

He is survived by, 2 sons, Jeffrey (Lorri) Miller of Pierre, SD, and Scott (Julie) Miller of Flower Mound, TX; 6 grandchildren, Kalee Miller, Shelby Miller, and Madison Miller all of Pierre, and Nichole Warren, Nathan Miller and Neal Miller, all of Flower Mound, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Vickie on January 28, 2006.
