Robert Dennis "Mac" McQuillen, age 77, of Huron, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the VA Regional Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. His burial service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, April 8. Robert D. McQuillen, the son of Robert E. and Ida (Mikkelson) McQuillen, was born on October 30, 1936, in Aberdeen, SD. He graduated from High School in 1954 and attended college. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in January of 1958. Robert married Delores Hauck on October 15, 1960 at the American Lutheran Church in Huron, SD. Robert worked for the Huron Police Department for 36 years, starting out as a patrolman, working his way on up to Captain and finishing his career as the Deputy Chief of Police and the Chief of Detectives. Robert was a member of the American Legion William Reaves Post #7 in Huron. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing with his granddaughter, woodworking, and tinkering in his garage. Robert enjoyed football and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings. Robert loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially his granddaughter, Jennifer, and his great-grandson, Kenneth. Grateful for having shared in his life are are his wife, Delores of Huron, SD; two daughters, Terri McQuillen, and Vicki (Mike) Ranney, both of Huron, SD; granddaughter, Jennifer Ranney of Huron, SD; and great-grandson, Kenneth Christensen of Huron, SD. Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
