Robert L. Bob Geiger, age 86, of Huron, died Friday, September 10, 2010, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Huron Veterans Council.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Monday, September 13, at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 5-8 p.m., and a Scripture Service to begin at 7 p.m. Monday night; or at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, with a Rosary to begin at 10:00 a.m.
Robert L. Geiger, the son of Howard and Vera (Barton) Geiger, was born on April 13, 1924, in Mitchell, SD. He graduated from Huron High School in 1942. Bob also graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD, with a Bachelors Degree. Bob served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Army during World War II, flying B-17s. He also trained pilots and flew rescue missions out of Tampa, Florida.
Bob married Janet J. Kauth on June 20, 1957, at the St. Martin Catholic Church in Huron, SD. Bob owned and operated Geigers Western Wear before retiring in 1994.
Bob was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church (Holy Trinity Catholic Parish), William Reaves American Legion Post #7, the Sertoma Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the Huron Rovers Camping Club. He enjoyed camping, traveling, horseback riding, and spending time at Lake Byron.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his son, Dan (Julie) Geiger of Watertown, MN; his sister, Joyce (Paul) Kingery of Sioux Falls, SD; nephew, Jeff (Deanna) Kingery of Seattle, WA; and 2 nieces, Chris (Kerry) Hofer of Sioux Falls, SD, and Paula Kingery of Madison, SD.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet in 2003; son, David Geiger; daughter, Margaret Geiger; and brother, Don Geiger.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Sertoma Club members and members of the Huron Rovers Camping Club.
