Robert D. DuBois, age 99, of Huron, SD, formerly of Hitchcock, SD, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. His funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with burial at the Altoona Cemetery in Hitchcock, SD. His visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 23, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD; or Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the Church in Huron. Robert DuBois, son of Harley and Mae (Fountain) DuBois, was born on March 9, 1913, one mile south of Hitchcock, SD. Bob attended school and graduated from Hitchcock High School. Bob married Lura Alice Payne on February 4, 1933, in Huron, SD. The couple farmed in the Wolsey and Hitchcock area until 1965,when the couple moved into the town of Hitchcock, SD. During that time on the farm, Bob and Lura raised eight children, growing large gardens and canning bushels of fruits. The couple then moved to Huron, SD, in 1994. Bob farmed, and ran the Costain Dairy Farm for many years. He also worked as a mechanic for Olsen Implement and Ted Bussel. Bob drove School bus for many years as well. Bob was an active member of the Hitchcock United Methodist Church, singing duets with his wife, Lura, and participating in the church choir. He attended the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron as well. Bob organized and led the Spink County 4-H club for many years. Bob enjoyed putting together puzzles. His family was very important to him and he loved spending time with them, playing games and going on outings with them. Grateful for having shared in Bob's life are his four sons: Roger (Sally) DuBois of Apple Valley, MN, Doug DuBois and Alan (Deb Allerdings) DuBois, both of Wessington, SD, and Gordon (Karen Kreul) DuBois of Madison, SD; three daughters: Carolyn (Dave) Filholm of Huron, SD, Evon (Milton) Schmidt of Minneapolis, MN, and Gordette (Tony) Oliva of Bloomington, MN; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Lura, in 2000; daughter, Deanna Kleinsasser in 1984; grandson, Daniel DuBois; granddaughter, Christine Kay DuBois; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; and daughter-in-law, Charlotte DuBois. The family would like to thank all of the staff at the SunQuest Healthcare Center and Huron Regional Medical Center Home Health Care for the excellent care and support they provided for Bob and his family.
