Obituary

Robert (Bob) Dale Moody, age 69, of Huron, passed away unexpectedly of a brain bleed on Friday evening, June 30, 2023 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be 10:30 am on Friday, July 7, 2023 at American Lutheran Church in Huron with interment following at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation with his family present will be from 4-6 pm on Thursday, July 6th concluding with a prayer service at 6 pm at Welter Funeral Home; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.

Bob was born on October 21, 1953 to Duane and Dolores (Currier) Moody in Huron. He attended Cavour school through 7th grade, went to 8th grade at the Custer country school and graduated from Huron High School in 1971. He attended and graduated from SDSU in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and joined his father on the family farm. He married Cheryl Hammer on June 25, 1982. Bob played fast pitch softball with teams from Miller and Iroquois in the 1970's and slow pitch softball in Huron until 1983. Golf and bowling were the sports he enjoyed after retiring from softball.  For 30 years, he and his high school/college friends went on a golf trip every June or July, the last few years to Brainerd, MN. He bowled on many leagues over the years, enjoying the times they went to the National tournament at different places in the U.S. He never had a hole in one but he was proud to have bowled four 300 games. He served on the Huron USBC board and became a life time member in 2009. He was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and SDSU athletics, especially the Basketball leagues.  Seven years ago he had his 1973 Mustang Mach 1 restored and enjoyed taking it to car shows and talking to other car enthusiasts.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, sister Susan (Mike) Soppe, brother Darold (Jeanne Lawler), brothers-in-law Brian (Lisa) Hammer, Mark (Nikki) Hammer, Jim (Christy) Hammer, Brad (Michelle) Hammer and Sister-in-law Brenda Wingle, 20 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and great nephews, his Aunt Betty (Perry) Puterbaugh, 10 cousins, and many wonderful friends and neighbors He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Generous in life, Bob was generous in death by being a tissue donor. By the donation of corneas, blood vessels and bone his gift will help improve the health and lives of others.
