Robert (Bob) Brodkorb, age 82, of Wolsey, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Avantara Huron.His Memorial Service will be on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM at First Congregational Church in Huron with military honors by the Hershman-Gordon American Legion Post 59. Burial will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Bob Brodkorb was born on January 25, 1937 in Wessington Springs, South Dakota to parents Robert W. and Florence (Westlake) Brodkorb. Bob entered the United States Navy on October 27, 1954. He served the majority of his enlistment in Japan and was honorably discharged on November 22, 1957.
Bob married Ruth Thompson on February 14, 1960 in Iroquois, South Dakota. Bob worked as a mechanic at the Ford Dealership in Huron for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping with the family. Bob also enjoyed bowling, wrestling and Nascar racing. Working on cars was a favorite hobby as well.
Bob was a life member (49 years) of the Hershman-Gordon Legion Post 59 of Wolsey, Wolsey Fire Department and the First Congregational Church of Huron.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his son Rex; daughter Johnna Rae; one brother in infancy, Richard; brother-in-law, Roger Albright, and sister-in-law Evie Brodkorb.
Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife, Ruth of Wolsey; daughter Debora (LaDean) Kleinsasser of Wessington; son-in-law Moe Waldner of Wessington and daughter-in-law Diana Brodkorb of Long Beach, MS; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother Harold Brodkorb of Huron; sisters Betty Albright of Huron and Daisy (Scott) Lindblad of Suffolk, VA.
