Richard Dick Wooledge, Sr., age 71, of 444 Utah Ave. SE, Huron, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at his sons home in Sioux Falls under Hospice care. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the United Congregational Church in Gann Valley with Rev. Wayne Huber officiating. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, rural Gann Valley. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Richard Osmer Wooledge, Sr., was born on October 2, 1936, to Burt and Pearl (Kearney) Wooledge, in Gann Valley, SD. In 1938 he moved with his family to Adams, WI, where they lived until 1941 when they moved to Wisconsin Dells, WI. He attended school through the 3rd grade in Wisconsin Dells; the family then returned to Gann Valley where he completed his education, graduating from Gann Valley High School in 1955. He worked for several years as a ranch hand. On October 2, 1960, (Dicks birthday) he married Genevieve Rohrbauck in Chamberlain, SD. In 1961, he began a 37-year career with the South Dakota Department of Transportation. In 1982, he was transferred to Huron. He was the Area Supervisor of Beadle, Clark, and Kingsbury Counties retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Huron, and the Board of Directors for the Gann Valley Community Center. His many interests included camping, dancing, playing cards, and woodworking projects - many that he gave away to family and friends. He treasured the moments that he could spend with his family, especially the grandchildren, and the opportunity to spend time with his many friends. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve of Huron; 4 children, Renee Sandau (friend Mike Brezina) of Tripp, SD, Randy (Anne) Wooledge of Sioux Falls, Richard Rick (Charnelle) Wooledge, Jr. of Sioux Falls, and Ronn Wooledge (friend Nick Janssen) of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren, Jenny Sandau, Brian Sandau, Jamie Sandau, Tabitha Wooledge, Tanner Wooledge, Mandy (Joel) Chandler, Melanie (Josh) Moore, Melisa (Will) Kallhoff, Makayla Wooledge, Hunter Wooledge, Nicholas Wooledge, Noah Wooledge, Nathaniel Wooledge, and Noelle Wooledge; 1 great grandson, Kalub Wooledge; 3 sisters, Betty (Sonny) Carstensen of Guaymas, Mexico, Mary (Leo) Gillen of Kimball, SD, and Linda (Jim) Sterrett of Casper, WY; and 1 brother, Jerry (Merrilie) Wooledge of Redfield, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 great grandson, Tristan Wooledge; 1 brother, Bill Wooledge; 1 sister, Alberta Lahti; and 1 brother-in-law, Delbert Lahti.
