Obituary

Richard "Dick" V. Wilson, age 93, of Huron, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at SunQuest Healthcare Center. A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Huron with a luncheon immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Richard Wilson was born July 11, 1923 in Huron, SD to Wayne and Bonnie (Fletcher) Wilson. After graduating from Huron High School in 1942, he enlisted in the US Army in January 1943 to serve the US in WWII. After training, he was sent to the European Theater and was assigned to the Eighth Army Air Force in England and other parts of Europe servicing and repairing B-17 Bombers and P-38 Fighters. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945 and returned to South Dakota.

On July 14, 1945, he married Phyllis Gascoigne in Huron. He worked as a mechanic until he and his brother, Don Wilson, took over Wilson Motor Co. following the death of their father. He remained with Wilson Motor Co. until its sale and remained as shop manager for Bell Motors for several more years. He attended the First United Methodist Church and was involved in the Huron Lions Club and Huron Snowmobile Club.

He retired in 1985 to help care for Phyllis until her death in August 1986. He continued to keep busy in his workshop with many small projects and to ride his snow mobile when possible.

On March 18, 1988 Richard married Ruby Langbehn in Huron. Richard and Ruby were involved in the Fun Steppers Dance Club. He also became a caregiver for Ruby until her death in November 2012.

Richard is survived by three children Jim (Erma) Wilson, Julie (Thomas) Hofer, Jerry (Janet) Wilson; one step son, Leroy Langbehn; seven grandchildren, Wayne (Kathleen) Wilson, Angela (Rodney) Drake, Robert (Jennifer) Wilson, Bryan (Phoebe) Hofer, David Hofer, Jessica (Joshua) Bosma, Joseph (Nichole) Wilson; and 14 great grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Don, his wife Phyllis, and his wife Ruby.
