Richard "Dick" Ross, age 82, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 30, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Huron. A private family burial will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with the family present, will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 4-6 PM at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.

Richard Ross was born on March 17, 1941, to Ellis and Lucille (Smith) Ross in Huron. He graduated from Huron High School in 1959 and Huron College in 1963.

He married Judy Hanson on July 31, 1964, in Britton, South Dakota. They lived in Huron all their married life. Dick worked with his father at Huron Transfer, the local Allied Van Lines agency, for several years before becoming an insurance agent. He worked with the McCaskell Agency for many years. Dick was a member of the South Dakota National Guard from 1964-1969.

Dick was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and loved to walk. He enjoyed sharing these activities with family and friends. He treasured his time spent with his children and grandchildren and camping with family was a joy as well.

He is survived by his wife Judy of Huron; his daughter Wendy Clark of Brookings; his son Scott (Traci) Ross of Huron; his beloved grandchildren Allison and Austin Clark of Brookings and Kaylei Ross of Brookings, Emma and Hattie Ross of Huron; his brother Loren (Connie) Ross of Sioux Falls; his sister-in-law Elna Hanson of Chelsea, Alabama; two nieces, one nephew and their families, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ellis and Lucille Ross, formerly of Huron; his in-laws Ward and Ellen Hanson of Britton and Sun City, Arizona, and brother-in-law Richard Hanson of Chelsea, Alabama.
