Richard "Dick" Meyer, age 63, of Huron, SD, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket, SD. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron, SD, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron and military rites by the Huron Veterans Council. His visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, from 6-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Richard "Dick" Meyer, the son of Paul and Ruby Meyer, was born on July 26, 1949, in Huron, SD. He attended the Meyer Country School through 8th grade before graduating from Alpena High School in 1967. Dick served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. For a time Dick farmed with his hero, his dad. He also worked for Telelect and the Railroad before going to work for Edney Distributing in Huron. Dick worked for Edney Distributing for over twenty years before retiring on March 30, 2012. Dick married Carolyn Schied on December 1, 1973, at the Riverview Methodist Church in Huron, SD. Dick attended the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting guns. He treasured the time that he spent with his family especially the time spent with his granddaughter, Norah. Grateful for having shared in Dick's life are his wife, Carolyn of Huron, SD; his son, Cody (Ashley) Meyer of Billings, MT, and his granddaughter Norah; his daughter Kristen (Sheldon) Schroeder of Huron, SD; three brothers, Steve Meyer, of Huron, SD, Randall (Liz) Meyer of Broomfield, CO, and Todd Meyer of Orlando, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Rodney Meyer.
