Thanks for your understanding, Welter Funeral Home." Richard Belden Johnson, age 81, of Huron, died on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. A Memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held 10:30 am Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Richard Belden Johnson, the youngest son of seven children was born on June 11, 1929, in Huron, SD, to Edward M. and Alma O. Johnson. Richard attended school and graduated from Huron High School. He also finished one year of college in St. Paul, Minnesota. Richard served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946-1948 and was honorably discharged. Richard married Shirley L. Weisz on January 15, 1953, in Minneapolis, MN, and had 2 children. Richard worked for the U.S. Post Office in Minneapolis and retired in 1984. He moved to Huron, SD in 1985. Richard was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League Det. 746, the William Reaves American Legion Post #7, B.P.O.E. #444 Elks, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Richard enjoyed life to its fullest. He loved traveling, fishing, hunting, playing cards, reading, writing poetry and songs, listening to music and watching movies. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend, a cause or a stranger. He reveled in a good conversation or debate of any kind. He cherished time spent with his family and friends. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. Grateful for having shared in Richards life are his son, Mark (Nancy) Johnson, of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Diane Forsberg (Micheal), also of Minneapolis, MN; 5 grandchildren; Matthew (Charisse), Nicholas, Tyler, Liza and Andrew; 2 sisters, Nona Crowell, Denver CO and Darlene Johnson, Lafayette, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Jan; brother, Charles E. Johnson; 3 sisters, Phyllis Johnson, Lila Engelbretson, and Adele Peterson; and son-in-law, Michael Forsberg. Richard loved the Lord and today is at home with him in his Garden of Paradise, Heaven. Rejoice...until we meet again.
