Richard L. Hofer, age 74, of Yale, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. His memorial service will be on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM at the funeral home.

His funeral service will be livestreamed thru Welter Funeral Home Facebook Page.

Richard Hofer was born on November 12, 1946 to parents Herman and Susie (Stahl) Hofer in Huron. He grew up in the Yale area.

Richard worked at Armour and Swift Meatpacking for over 20 years. He worked at the State Fair ground in maintenance for many years. Richard retired from the Yale Co-op Elevator (now Ag Tegra) in 2011.

Richard married Carol Maas at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yale on October 13, 1966. Richard had many hobbies in his life. He enjoyed sharpening knives and chainsaws and made it into a business. He liked to hunt and fish. He enjoyed the 4-H horse show and calf-roping. Spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids was also important to him.

Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife Carol of Yale; children, Jamie (Amy) Hofer of Huron and Julie (Alan) Duncan of Parker; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Brad) Olson, Brock (Sabrina) Duncan, Andrea (Travis DeJong) Duncan, Cauy (Randi) Hofer, Cassie Hofer, Kali Hofer, and Ellie Hofer; four great-grandchildren, Harlan, Corinne, and Grady Olson, and Everley DeJong; 3 brothers, Norman (Delores) Hofer of Huron, Bill (Judy) Hofer of Minnesota, Bruce (Gayle) Hofer of Huron, sister Charlotte (Dave) Gamber of Emery; sister-in-law Lavonne Hofer of Arizona, brother-in-law Delano Hofer of Yale; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter SueAnn in 1971; brother Allen Hofer; sisters Carol (Hank) Cypher, Lavonne (Leroy) Hintz, and Dorothy Hofer.
