Richard "Dick" Gascoigne, age 83, of Wolsey, SD, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Living Hope Alliance Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m.; or Monday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. If anyone would like to visit with the family they are gathering at the Terry & Twila Gascoigne home, 1224 Kansas Ave. NE. Richard Gascoigne, son of Jacob and Vera (McNally) Gascoigne, was born on August 21, 1930, in Huron, SD. He attended schools in Broadland and Huron. Following his formal education he worked for various farms in the Broadland area. On June 11, 1948, Richard married Ruth Harrell in Mitchell. They lived in Huron and he was employed with Park Grant Wholesale Distributors in Huron. On February 5, 1952, Dick entered the U.S Army during the Korean War. He served in Germany until his honorable discharge on January 5, 1954. He returned to Huron and did construction work building bridges for the next 25 years. In 1978, Dick and his son, Rick, started Gascoigne Construction, which Rick operates to this day. Dick retired in 1982 due to ill health. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene; and VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776 of Huron. His interests included playing cards, fishing and hunting in his younger years; and camping. He is survived by 3 children, Rick (Denise) Gascoigne of Wolsey, Terry (Twila) Gascoigne of Huron, and Debra (Doug) Brock of Huron; 8 grandchildren, Brandon (Paula) Gascoigne, Brittney (Mike) Nicholson, Robbie Gascoigne, Allyson Gascoigne, Kari Schnathorst, Jackie (Logan) Kohlman, Tiffany Gascoigne, and Shauna Gascoigne; 4 great grandchildren, Olivia Schnathorst, Samantha Schnathorst, Chase Gascoigne, and Caleb Gascoigne; 1 sister, Kay (Murray) Zwanziger of Augusta, GA; 1 sister-in-law, Mary Ann Gascoigne of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth on January 21, 2002; 5 brothers, Claude (Mary) Gascoigne, infants Wesley and Robert Gascoigne, Dean Gascoigne, and George "Porky" (Ellen) Gascoigne; 1 infant sister, Jeanne Gascoigne.
