Obituary

Richard Edwin Buchholz, age 84, of Hitchcock, SD, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. His Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Redfield Wesleyan Church in Redfield, SD with burial at the Graceland Cemetery in rural Spink County, and Military Rites by the Raymond-Hart American Legion Post # 84 of Hitchcock. His visitation will be from1-8 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Friday night and a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or, one hour prior to the service at the church in Redfield. Richard Edwin Buchholz, the son of Edwin E. and Millie (Block) Buchholz was born September 3, 1926 on the family farm in rural Hitchcock, SD. He attended school in Hitchcock. Richard served his country in the U.S Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Richard married Ida Anderson on September 30, 1949 in Tulare, SD. Richard farmed near Hitchcock for 38 years before moving to Hitchcock, SD. Richard was a member of the Redfield Wesleyan Church. He was also a member of the Raymond Hart American Legion Post #84 in Hitchcock, SD, serving as the treasurer for many years. He enjoyed fishing, farming, and playing cards with his buddies. Grateful for having shared in Richard's life, are his wife of 61 years, Ida Buchholz, of Hitchcock, SD; son, Roy (Susan) Buchholz, of Hitchcock, SD; 2 daughters, Linda (Bill) Glaeser, of Graham, WA, and Cindy Marshall, of Liberia, West Africa; 6 grandchildren: Nathan(Charity) Marshall, Aaron (Carisa) Marshall, Jordan (Kim)Marshall, Heather (Kenny) Crawford, Casey (Tanya) Buchholz, and Demetrious Reed; 9 great grandchildren: Cassandra and Tucker Buchholz, Corbin and Kennedy Crawford, Braylon, Sadee, Ethan, and Mikaiah Marshall, and Tyrone Reed; sister, Karen (Rich) Bacon, of Aberdeen, SD; step-brother, Darrell (Jodi) Stitt, of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Elaine Buchholz; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Millie Buchholz; step-mother, Velma Buchholz; brother, Lloyd Buchholz; step-brother, Lyle Stitt; and son-in-law, Larry Marshall. Memorials in Richard's name may be made to Gideon's International.
