Reva Stengle, age 86, of Brookings and formerly of Virgil, died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Sanford Hospice Centennial Cottage in Sioux Falls. Her funeral will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm Friday, October 30, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service. Reva Marie Boomsma was born on November 27, 1928 in Huron to Steve and Elizabeth Boomsma and lived on a farm near Broadland. She graduated from Huron High School. Reva married Harold Nordaker on April 7, 1946 and moved to the family farm where they raised their four children, Steve, Della, Jim, and Lori. She was a dealer for Stanley Home Products, enjoyed bowling and playing cards. After Harold died in 1970, Reva moved to Sioux Falls and worked a short time at Ace Hardware. She met Ray Stengle and they married on September 15, 1972. She was an active community volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Children's Home Society, and Zion Lutheran Church activities. Reva continued to bowl on a league and started her lifelong passion for playing bridge. She always enjoyed cooking and was honored by the Argus Leader as "Cook of the Week". During quiet times at home, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlework and reading. Reva and Ray enjoyed travel adventures in their motor home including hunting, fishing, and visiting all 50 states. After Ray retired they moved to Bella Vista, AR. Reva continued her passion for playing bridge, bowling, and developed her skills in gardening. Reva traveled with Ray internationally. In 2000, she started annual Mother-Daughter trips though out the United States. Following Ray's death, Reva moved to Austin, TX. She continued to play bridge and spent time with family and her great grandchildren. Reva moved to Brookings, SD in September 2015. Reva is survived by her children, Steve (Jane) Nordaker of Houston, TX; Della (Craig) Tschetter of Brookings; James (Terri) Nordaker of Anoka, MN; and Lori Campbell of Phoenix, AZ; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Agnes Teveldal, Liz Hiles, Carol Brenner, and 1 brother Jake (Kay) Boomsma all of Huron; sister-in-law, Sally Boomsma of Huron; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Harold Nordaker and Ray Stengle; one brother Richard Boomsma.
