Obituary

Raymond Younkin, age 67, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Huron, died on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His memorial service will be 10:30 am Friday, April 17, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens. Memorial visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service on Friday. Raymond Gene Younkin was born on April 22, 1947 in Huron to George and Jennie (Farmer) Younkin. He attended Huron schools and graduated from Huron High School in 1965. Ray then attended the Northwest College of Commerce, receiving a Senior Business Administration Degree, and Midwest Automation, learning to operate IBM technology. He worked for a year in Minneapolis at Northwestern National Bank in the Trust department, before returning back to Huron to work for Northwestern Public Service as a computer programmer. Ray married Bonnie Mitchell on January 2, 1982 in Huron. In May of 1985, he graduated from Huron College Summa Cum Laude with a BA in accounting and a minor in Economics. Ray retired from Northwestern Public Service in 1998. Ray was a member of First United Methodist Church in Huron and was a member of the Huron Lion's Club, including being the Lion's treasurer for over 7 years. His generosity continued even after his death as Ray donated his corneas through the Lion's Eye Bank. Ray loved to play cards, especially Bridge, collecting coins, and traveling. Ray and Bonnie traveled to every state twice, all over Canada, and also enjoyed two cruises. Ray is survived by his wife of 33 years, Bonnie Younkin of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Brenda (Frank) Zepp of Virgil, Gina King of Woonsocket, Vickie King of Huron; five grandchildren, Joshua Rittel, Tyler Rittel, Asia King, Wyatt Zepp, Zack Lindblad; one sister, Gerri (Tom) McMillan of Sioux Falls; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Mitchell of Huron; several nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Chance Casey; and his father-in-law, Roy Mitchell.
