Raymond Long, age 78, of Alpena, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Avantara Huron in Huron, South Dakota.

His Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM Friday, February 7, 2020 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be from 8:00 AM to the time of service at the Funeral Home on Friday.

Raymond H. Long, the son of Ray and Lola (Maxie) Long, was born on March 9, 1941 in Huron, SD.  Ray attended Huron School until the eighth grade. Ray worked at Bales Continental Commission and  various schools as a custodian. Ray enjoyed talking with people.

Ray married Rosetta Gange on March 1, 1958 in Huron, SD. They made their home in Huron and Alpena and surrounding communities.

He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Spending time with his family, friends, and pets, especially his two cats, Sparky and Precious, were important to him. He loved going to and watching antique tractor show and collecting models of cars, trucks, and tractors.

Grateful for having shared in Ray's life are his wife, Rosetta of Alpena, SD; his children: Dennis (Cindy) Long of Summit, Alfred (Pauline) Long of Huron, Cindy (Rick) Larson of Huron, Sheri Barth of Huron, and Bill (Ellen) Long of PA;  13 grandchildren, Tammy (Eric) Kneen, Dennis (Allison) Long, Jr., Jeromy (Becky) Long, April (Jay) Thompson, Cory Larson, Arthur (fiancé Stephanie Biddle) Long, Amy Long, Rose (fiancé Lee Buechler) Long, Cody (Nikkole) Barth, Casey Larson, Chad (Apryl) Barth, Alfred Long, Jr., and Ada LaBar; 22 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lola Long; his sister Karen DeLong; and his parents-in-law, Alfred and Pearl Gange; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
