Raymond J. "Ray" Kempf, age 62, of 41078 222 St, Artesian, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center at Mitchell.
His funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 25th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.
Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the Mass Thursday morning at the church. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
Raymond J. Kempf was born on July 12, 1943, to Edward J. and Gertrude (Maddock) Kempf on a farm near Forestburg. He attended country school and attended and graduated from Forestburg High School. After his graduation he continued to farm with his father.
On December 20, 1968, Ray married JoEllen Bauer at the Catholic Church at Carthage, SD. They have lived and farmed in Floyd Township since that time.
Ray was a member of 4-H, and was on the Floyd Township board for many years. He always looked forward to opening weekend of hunting season to be with his friends and family. His hobbies were hunting, and sports, especially baseball, basketball and softball which he played until he was 41. He also loved farming and especially his cattle.
He his survived by his wife JoEllen Kempf of rural Artesian; two sons, Philip (Amy) Kempf of Mitchell and Chad (Lisa) Kempf of Elk Point; four grandchildren, Lily, Canon, Easton and Macy Kempf; three brothers, Paul (Bev) Kempf of Huron, Dave (Bonnie) Kempf of Omaha, NE and Don (Darla) Kempf of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Miriam Heinzmann of Letcher and Gen (John) Fraser of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Norman Heinzmann.Casket bearers will be Danny Kempf, Kenny Kempf, Dick Heinzmann,Mark Fraser, Tim Fraser, Micah Kempf, Kristi Kempf and Kara Sobaski.Honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren.
