Ray Huckins, age 77, of Fort Mohave, AZ, formerly of Huron, SD, died November 9, 2012, at Valley View Medical Center in Fort Mohave. His body has been cremated and his memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, at Welter Funeral Home with family present Friday morning at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial of his cremated remains will be 10:00 a.m. MDT Tuesday, August 13, at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. Raymond Melroy Huckins was born April 10, 1935, to Ralph and Dollie (Peck) Huckins at Blunt, SD. He grew up and attended elementary school in Huron. Ray worked in plumbing, the pipe line, and the oil fields in Wyoming and California before being drafted into the U.S. Army in April 1958. He served in the 33rd Armored Division and was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge he again worked in Wyoming. He moved to California in January of 1961 and began working in retail auto parts, later becoming owner of Gale Auto Parts Inc. in Hacienda Heights, CA. On June 10, 1961, Ray married Marylyn Wagner at La Puenta, CA. The couple had three sons. Ray was a member of the Elks Lodge; American Legion in West Cavina, CA; Moose Lodge in Bullhead City, AZ; and VFW Post in Mohave Valley, AZ. His many interests included traveling, pheasant hunting and fishing in South Dakota, and bowling. Ray is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marylyn of Huron; 2 sons, Kevin (Mary) Huckins of Winter Haven, FL, and Todd (Pam) Huckins of Bellflower, CA; 1 daughter-in-law, Valerie Huckins of West Covina, CA; 1 sister, Pauline (Edgar) Hinderer of East Wenatchee, WA; 2 half-brothers, Wayne Curtis of Huron, SD, and Leslie (Ida) Curtis of Rock Falls, IL; 6 grandchildren, Trevor Huckins, Kyle Huckins, Chance Huckins, Angelique Huckins, Genevieve Huckins, and Megan Huckins; 3 step-grandchildren, Dusti (Pat) Ferguson, Courtney (Andrea) Barker, and John Mark Galloway; 6 step-great grandchildren, Morgan Ferguson, Bryce Ferguson, Gavin Ferguson, Mason Barker, Isaac Barker, and Cameron Barker; many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; his son, Jeff Huckins in 2005; his brother and sister-in-law, Ralph (Edna) Huckins; and his sister and brother-in-law, Lily Belle (Don) Paye.
