Ralph Peterson, age 89, of Spearfish, SD, and formerly of 454 Colorado Ave. SW, Huron, died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the Sturgis Regional Hospital in Sturgis, SD. His burial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 13, at Riverside Cemetery in Huron with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. There will be no visitation. Ralph Dennis Peterson was born on November 26, 1918, to Charles and Laura (Northey) Peterson in Huron, SD, where he grew up and graduated from Huron High School in 1937. On September 23, 1941, Ralph entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Sgt on January 6, 1946. After his discharge he returned to Huron and began a 30-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, until his retirement in 1976. He moved to Spearfish in 2006. He was a member of the William Reaves American Legion Post #7 of Huron; Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 of Huron; NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees); lifetime member of Elks Lodge #444 of Huron; life member of the Huron Area Senior Center; and member of the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons). He was an avid sports fan and longtime Chicago Cubs fan. He is survived by a cousin, Clarence (Bonnie) Northey of Lead, SD. He was preceded in death by his father in 1981, and his mother in 1984.
