Obituary
Rachel R. Huet, age 85, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Huron, passed away on Sunday, August 5, at Sanford Ava's House in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service is pending with the Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
Visitation with her family present will be from 12:00 pm until her funeral mass at 2 pm on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish in Sioux Falls. A reception with light refreshments will be held immediately following the funeral mass at Holy Spirit Parish.
A second visitation with the family present will be from 12-1:45 pm on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron followed by interment at 2 pm at St. Martin's Cemetery in Huron. A reception with light refreshments will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron immediately following the committal service.
Rachel Rita Jimenez Huet, formerly of Huron, SD completed her life's journey at the Ava's Hospice House in Sioux Falls on Sunday 8/05/18 surrounded by her loving family. She was born 2/10/1933 in Browley, CA to Manuel and Felipa (Valejo) Jimenez. She graduated from Fresno General Hospital School of Nursing. It was here that she met and fell in love with Dr. William (Bill) Huet, and one short year later they were married on 7/02/1955.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children; Diane (Kevin) Kalkman of Huron, SD; William (Kristie) Huet of Sioux Falls, SD; Tony (Anthony) (Beverley) Huet of Coppell, TX; R Robin (Bob) Linneman of Clark, SD; Dr. Lorraine (Dan) Huet-Holm of Sioux Falls, SD; and David (Kim) Huet of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Coco Espino of Selma, California. In addition to her sister and children she is survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rachel was the youngest of 11 children. She was the first of her family to get a college education and graduated from nursing school. She met her husband Bill while he was a medical intern and she a nurse at the Fresno County Hospital. They were married for 61 years before Bill passed away in 2017.
Our mother lived her life in the Grace of Jesus. Nursing was second nature to her and she had a lot of practice. She truly had the desire to serve the Lord by helping and showing love to others. Her beautiful smile and loving touch were very healing to all who knew her. She was an inspiration to her family in the way she cared for her 6 children, her in-laws-Papacito after he broke his hip, Chulita after she became a widow and her husband Bill when he became ill with Parkinson's disease. Mom also loved the beauty of flowers. She had a knack for growing roses and was very involved in her local garden club. She was a wonderful cook, introducing her unique cuisine to family and friends. Her faith in Jesus was unwavering throughout her life and even through death. She is going to missed by so many. Te quiero mucho mama!
