Phyllis Zvonek, age 88, of Wessington, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington with burial at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Wessington. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Monday, June 16, 2014, at Welter Funeral Home; or Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Phyllis Mae Zvonek was born on February 24, 1926 in Wessington, SD to Loren and Mary (Johnson) Chesebro. She attended grade school at Miller and Wessington and graduated from Wessington High School in 1944. She then attended an institute in Minneapolis, MN where she studied radio. Phyllis returned to Wessington and married John Wilmer Zvonek on May 12, 1945 at the Little Flower of Jesus St. Theresa Rectory in Sioux Falls, SD. They spent their entire married life farming northeast of Wessington. Wilmer died on December 2, 1995 and Phyllis continued to live on the family farm with her daughter, Jonnie. Music was always a big part in Phyllis' life. She and her two sisters started singing and dancing at an early age. Later she sang with a trio and tried her hand at writing songs. Phyllis enjoyed plastic needlepoint, crocheting, reading, and cooking for family and friends. She and Wilmer liked to travel and spent many winters in Arizona before her husband's death. Phyllis is survived by her four daughters, Sheryl (Joe) Frederick of Lincoln, NE, Diane (Jerry) Phillips of Wessington, Jonnie Zvonek of Wessington, and Jacki (Ray) Reidburn of Prescott Valley, AZ; eight grandchildren, BJ (Erica) McNeil of Huron, Jamie (Kristi Kampmann) Phillips of Aurora, Michelle Phillips of Sioux Falls, Shawna (Curt) Peterson of Wolsey, Amber (Rusty) Parmely of Wolsey, Charissa (Eyp) Ozaltin of Thorton, CO, Derek Reidburn of Surprise, AZ, Brandi Reidburn of Northridge, CA; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Kenneth) Hall of Payson, AZ, Janice Rowen of St. Lawrence; several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilmer; one half-sister, Ruth Cushman; one half-brother, James Chesebro; brother-in-law, Edwin Rowen.
