Phyllis Hovde, age 80, of Huron, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Huron. Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5-7 P.M., Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A Prayer Service will begin at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Phyllis Gayle was born on August 14, 1943 in Watertown, South Dakota to parents Melvin and Velva (Froke) Reinhart. She grew up in the Vienna area and attended Vienna High School.

Phyllis married Merlin Hovde in Willow Lake, South Dakota on January 4, 1960. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at AMPI in Lake Preston.

Phyllis transformed everything she touched including homes, furniture restoration, arts, and crafts. She loved beautiful colors, flowers, cooking, baking, and music. Phyllis loved to help people and always had a soft spot for people who were down and out.

She is survived by her husband, Merlin; her children, Don (Karen) Hovde, Dawnette (David) Anderson, and David (Angel) Hovde; grandchildren, Jill, Brian, Daniel, Blais, Christian and Myles; her sisters, Sharon Simpson, and Sylvia Larson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings.
