Phyllis Burns, age 77, of 663 5th St SW, Huron, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 21st at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Phyllis Burns was born Phyllis Smoyer on March 7, 1928, to Lawrence and Lillian (Trotter) Smoyer at Albion, NE. She attended grade school at Albion, NE and graduated from Fullerton, NE. On August 30, 1947, Phyllis married Robert E. Burns at Fullerton, NE. They moved to Mitchell and then to Huron in 1948 where she has lived since that time. She worked at various stores in Huron as a sales clerk. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school. She was active in the Telephone Pioneers where she made huggy bears, Girl Scouts and was a volunteer at Wilson School. She enjoyed camping and fishing. She is survived by 3 daughters, Janet (Rudy) Oestreich of Huron, Marsha (Marvin Jr. Freddy) Coil of Hermosa and Mary (Gary) Hillberg of Huron; 6 grandchildren, Maggie (John) LeGrand of Huron, Justin (Crystal) Oestreich of Sioux Falls, Tricia (Rene) Walker of Rapid City, Dawn (David) Marshall of Wolsey, Kelsey Hillberg and Haley Hillberg both of Huron; 10 great grandchildren, Rachael LeGrand, Karter LeGrand, Micki Oestreich, Abbi Oestreich, McKenzie Oestreich, Tiffany Heasley, Dillon Heasley, Megan Walker, Leah Marshall and Landon Marshall; 2 sisters, Lenore Mills of Pinehurst, NC and Juanita (Ralph) Kleibecker of Dayton, OH; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert on October 29, 1983, her parents, her daughter Lynn Kay, her granddaughter, Tonya Coil and 3 brothers, Lowell, Dean and Dana. Casket bearers will be John LeGrand, Rene Walker, David Marshall and Crystal Oestreich.
