Philip J. Tiernan, age 93, of Huron, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Faulkton, South Dakota at 2:30 PM on Wednesday. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Philip Joseph Tiernan was born on March 19, 1926 to parents John and Mary (Duggan) Tiernan in Faulkton, South Dakota. Phillip attended Walgamuth Country School in Faulkton. Philip lived in Faulkton until 1985 before moving to Huron where he resided until his death. Phil worked for Kalkman Farm sheep shearing and lambing as well as Lehman Haying Operation.

Phil was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and Knights of Columbus.

Phil lived a joyful life and always had a big smile and a quick laugh.  He shared his drawings with everyone he met, taught countless nieces and nephews to play checkers, Crazy 8's and Goldfish and played his harmonica with gusto.  He was a compassionate man who gave every senior citizen in Faulkton a ride to daily mass.  Phil loved baseball and participated in the annual 4 ^th of July game well into his 80's.  He excelled in Special Olympics, winning scores of medals in track and field. A passionate fisherman, he especially enjoyed the annual trip to some of the best fishing spots in Colorado with his siblings.  Phil proudly wore the colors of the Vikings, the Twins and anything green to celebrate his Irish Heritage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings, John, Mary, Terry, Alice, Dottie, Kay and Patty.

Grateful for having shared in his life is his sister, Rita Gross of Huron; cousins Mary McKenna of Torrence, CA and Dennis Duggan of Denver, CO; and scores of nieces and nephews.
