Peter Schorzmann, age 82, of 881 10th St. SW, Huron, SD, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his home.
His funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.; or Thursday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be directed to American Lutheran Church of HRMC Community Hospice.
Peter Schorzmann, the son of Peter and Dorothea (Buerkley) Schorzmann, was born on January 5, 1927, in Alpena, SD. He graduated from Alpena High School in 1947.
He worked for the railroad; Armour & Company; and prior to his marriage at the Gold Medal Dairy, all in Huron.
On August 19, 1950, Pete married Rosalta Rose Turcotte at her mothers home in Huron. In 1955, Pete began working for the City of Huron in the street department, rising to Superintendent of that department. He retired on July 1, 1987, due to poor health.
He was a member of American Lutheran Church and was a church usher; past member of the Lions Club; and charter member of the H&B Federal Credit Union.
His many interests including fishing, hunting, traveling with Rose after they both had retired, gardening, playing cribbage, and bowling of which he was a league member for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Rose of Huron; 3 daughters, Brenda Parisien of Huron, Briana Ege of Huron, and Belinda Scattini of Hollister, CA; 3 grandchildren, Camron (Myron) Weber, Kory (Heather) Steilow, and Ashley (Justin) Parisien; 8 great grandchildren; 6 sisters, Pearl Bergquist of Huron, Ruth Namanny of Huron, Mary Bill of Huron, Geneva Hanson of Orlando, FL, Rachel Schnabel of Farmington, MN, and Harriet Hegg of Hollister, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Brad Schorzmann, 1 grandson, Scott Nelson; and 9 brothers and sisters.
